Painting (Lhadri)

Bhutanese traditional painting, known as Lhazo, is one of the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan, collectively called Zorig Chusum. Lhazo involves intricate and colourful paintings that often depict religious themes, deities, and symbols. These paintings are found on thangkas (scroll paintings), on the walls of monasteries and temples, and on religious objects.

Artisans follow strict guidelines and symbolic representations passed down through the generations. The meticulous process involves preparing natural pigments from minerals, plants, and other materials to achieve the vibrant colours characteristic of Bhutanese art.
